After a not so promising start to the 2023 season (starting 0-2) Boise State was crowned the champions of the Mountain West Division in college football for the fourth time in the division’s history. Boise State has been crowned the king of the division more than any other team in the Mountain West. The conference includes twelve teams. Some notable colleges include Air Force and Utah State.

“I’m a big fan of Boise [State], I try to go to as many games a season as possible. I was starting to get worried when the season started so bad,” said sophomore Lincoln Swenson.

After having a slow start to the season, the team really turned it around. The Broncos ended up finishing the season at 8-6. This would land them a spot in the Mountain West Championship.

As the season went on, fans could feel the support in Boise growing for this beloved team. Students at Eagle High who plan to go to Boise State as well as members of the community came together to cheer on the Boise State football team.

“I’ve been a BSU fan since I was a kid. I really enjoyed seeing them make and then win the Mountain West Championship,” said senior Aarron Howell.

The turnaround in the season was due to many factors, things such as coaching changes and fantastic plays from members of the team. One factor above the rest, however, was the true emergence of sophomore running back Ashton Jeanty.

Jeanty put together a stellar 2023 campaign for the Boise State Broncos. He racked up 1,262 rushing yards, 552 receiving yards, and 19 total touchdowns. He was even leading the nation in total touchdowns for a time.

Jeanty is currently ranked the number one player in the Mountain West Division after this electrifying season. This amazing season from Jeanty is a large reason the team earned the right to partake in the Mountain West Championship Game.

The championship was played on Dec. 2nd, 2023. The game showed a compelling win for the Boise State Broncos with the Broncos jumping to a 31-17 lead before half time. The final score was 44-20, in favor of Boise State. Ashton Jeanty had 21 carries, 153 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. He showed why he is the best player in the Mountain West. With stellar play from young players such as Jeanty, the Boise State Broncos future is very bright.
