Mustang Media is a newer program at Eagle High that runs year-round. From the outside looking in, Mustang Media is a club that focuses on social media marketing for Eagle High. Students run various social media accounts for certain sports and clubs at the school.
Junior Sam Palfreyman is a student in Mustang Media. Palfreyman controls Eagle High’s girls’ volleyball and boys’ basketball Instagram pages. He believes that Mustang Media is a very beneficial class.
“They put me in charge of girls’ volleyball and boys’ basketball. I oversee other students and tell them when and what to post,” Palfreyman said.
Teacher Austin Rogerson supervises all of the posts. Not only is the class tasked with posting important dates and information over multiple Instagram accounts, but they also have clubs and sports assignments.
“Mustang Media is a class that you can enroll in. Basically, what happens is you get assigned to a group. Mr. Rogerson has various sports that he works with, he assigns each of these sports to a group,” said senior Mary Richardson.
Richardson ran the football Instagram page last year and worked with coach and teacher James Cluphf, the head football coach. Richardson’s job consisted of coordinating schedules and creating game day posts, as well as reposting other media and making senior posts.

Students in the class obtain experience by publishing and designing pages. Students also get the opportunity to have real-world marketing experience. The work required for the classroom is called agency work.
“As well as doing sports, you also have agency work. Last year we had the Idaho Health Department come in and present to us,” Richardson said. The Idaho Health Department has a marketing firm that spreads awareness about health-related issues and topics.
“Our role is to make campaigns to present them. There are multiple classes and there are different groups within those classes. It is a competition,” Richardson said. The winners of the campaign will take their work to the Department of Agency, where they will create a real campaign out of it.
Richardson created her campaign around vaping and substance abuse. Her slogan was “Find Peace Without the Puff.” She won and the Idaho Health Department took the general campaign idea, enhanced and published it.
Mustang Media is an important class, it prepares students for their future by offering them experiences in hands-on marketing, teamwork and responsibility.
