The Eagle High baseball boys have been working hard the past few months to prepare for the upcoming season. The team has high expectations for this season and are hoping to be in the final four and take State.
The team has been focusing on hitting, fielding and throwing so far.
“We have had hitting almost every day after school recently. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have lifting from 5:00 to 6:00 at the school,” said junior Keaton Rust.
Lifting takes place in Eagle High’s weightlifting room, where an athletic trainer leads the players through a structured series of exercises for an hour.
The players train even harder when it comes to their practices out on the field.
“On days where we are out on the field, we practice ground balls, fielding drills and sometimes scrimmage,” Rust said.
While the team trains hard together, the players also prioritize building strong relationships off the field as well.
“We all have been spending a lot of time together even outside of practice. We always get food together after practice and hangout in our free time,” said senior Stephen Egan.
According to Egan, strong relationships will build trust amongst the players which will improve their communication and performance on the field.
Tryouts for this season were on Feb. 27 and 28, which gave players an opportunity to try out for either the Varsity, Junior Varsity or Frosh team.
Varsity and Junior varsity have their first games on March 11th at 6:30 and 4:00 against Owyhee, at the College of Idaho fields. To see further game dates, information can be found on Instagram, @eaglehsbaseball.
Preseason has been a time of growth and development for the team. With the amount of preparation the Mustangs have put into this upcoming season, they have a great shot at making their dreams come true by making a run at the State Championship.
