Spring is an exciting season for Eagle High sports teams, especially boys’ and girls’ Rugby teams. Both teams are working hard to represent Eagle High to the best of their abilities.
Boys’ rugby started out their season in the beginning of February and have had two games so far. The team had a rocky start with their first game being a loss against Middleton High, however, they won their second game against Meridian High on Friday, March 27. The team’s season is far from over as they have five games coming up.
Senior Blake Rhodenbaugh explained that he enjoys the comradery aspect of being on the team as well as the friendships he has gained from this experience. While he thinks it would be fun to play after high school, he will not be taking his rugby journey any farther after he graduates.
“I have been on the team for four years now,” Rhodenbaugh said. “I was always interested in the game but a friend of mine asked me to play and I’ve been in love with the game ever since.”

A group of seven players chosen by coaches from Eagle High, Rocky Mountain High and Owyhee High are playing in the TOA tournament in Tampa, Florida April 3-4. This tournament has seven vs. seven players going against other teams from around the country.
The girls’ rugby team has had a very strong start to their season. They have had two games so far, 132-0 against Mountain View High/Boise High team and 146-0 against Middleton High.
Senior Ella Elordi is one of this year’s captains, and she is hoping to lead her team into a successful season.
“To me, being captain means being a leader and building an environment where girls can have fun and be a part of a good program,” Elordi said.
Their season still has more to come; the girls still have State and Nationals coming up in May. To follow along on the team’s journeys, go to @eaglehighrugby and @ladymustangrugby.
