West Ada will be holding a special event for high school seniors to return to their elementary school in their caps and gowns before graduation. While walking through the hallways, current elementary students and staff will line against the walls to cheer them on. It is meant to be a meaningful and full circle moment for the students.
“I haven’t been back to my elementary school since I was a student there,” said senior Avery Bennett. “So, it’s a really cool moment that I’m looking forward to.”
Seniors received an email from the current fifth grade principal of their school, they went to talk about the details for the walk if they want to participate. No parents, guardians or former students besides the seniors are allowed to come due to limited space. All the graduation walks take place on May 11 and May 12 from 3:20 to 3:50 p.m.
“I’m really excited to go back and see my old teachers and the little kids,” said senior Meri Roda.
Many seniors are looking forwards to the chance to go back to their old elementary school one final time as students.
“It’s really weird to be honest,” said senior Malia Hamilton. “I vaguely remember the seniors coming to my school when I was in fifth grade and thinking they were so big, but it feels like I just blinked and now I’m in their shoes.”
The graduation walk is a very fun tradition that students and staff agree is a great closing moment for the seniors.
