As the NFL football season comes to an end, it’s time for the NFL to give out awards. There are several awards handed out, such as the MVP, OPOY, DPOY, OROY, DROY and Coach of the Year.
The awards are chosen by fans, 50 journalists and football writers. This is done to keep the voting fair, but sportingnews.com goes into depth about it.
According to sportingnews.com, “It’s designed to ensure that the awards are awarded to the most deserving players and coaches…ensuring impartibility and expertise in the selection of the top players and coaches, the process is also overseen by the associated press.”
The finalists going into the night for the MVP were Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence and 49ers running back Christian McCaffery, with the favorites being Maye and Stafford.
The favorites heading into the night for other notable awards were Jaxson-Smith Njigba for OPOY, Myles Garret for DPOY, DROY for Carson Schwessinger, OROY for Tetairoa McMillen and Mike Vrabel for Coach of the Year.
As the night started, there were roughly two to 3,000 celebrities there, gathering for the event, even having special performances by Too $hort and E-40.
As the night continued, awards started being announced and players started receiving their awards.
According to nfl.com “AP Most Valuable Player went to Matthew Stafford, the Rams quarterback.” Stafford led one of the league’s most explosive offenses this season. The “AP Coach of the Year was awarded to Mike Vrabel, head coach of the Patriots”. His leadership helped the team exceed expectations.
“AP Offensive Player of the Year went to Jaxon Smith‑Njigba, the Seahawks wide receiver.” He consistently delivered big‑play performances throughout the year. The “AP Defensive Player of the Year was Myles Garrett, the Browns defensive end,” who put up record numbers in sacks.
“AP Offensive Rookie of the Year went to Tetairoa McMillan, the Panthers wide receiver,” who was a key player, helping the team to the playoffs. “AP Defensive Rookie of the Year was Carson Schwesinger, the Browns linebacker.”
As the awards go, there were no underdogs who came up with an award, but all winners deserved it and have proven why they deserved it with great accomplishments on the field.
