Meridian City Hall is hosting a Service Academy Day on March 21, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The event is designed to help students learn more about the service academies.
Military academy liaisons and representatives will be attending to assist families with major parts of the admissions process. According to Eagle High’s career counselor, Anna Bemis, one of the most important aspects they will help with is obtaining a congressional nomination.
There will be four academies in attendance: Westpoint, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy.
“Any student who has even a small or large interest in the military academies would benefit from attending. Even if they are unsure, this is a great opportunity to gather information, understand the expectations…” Bemis said, “…and meet the key individuals involved in the application process.”
Service academies are ideal for students who want to join the military without sacrificing a university education immediately after high school. They offer significant benefits, including tuition-free education.
“Service academies are a strong fit for student-athletes, high-achieving academic students, and those who feel called to serve their country…” Said Bemis, “…They are looking for well-rounded individuals who demonstrate leadership, discipline, resilience and a commitment to something bigger than themselves.” The academies’ high expectations and emphasis on leadership and discipline further distinguish them from other forms of higher education.
Attending Service Academy Day provides students and families with valuable insight into the application process, expectations and opportunities available. It is an excellent chance to explore whether a military academy aligns with a student’s goals and aspirations.
