As graduation approaches in 2026, seniors at Eagle High are looking back on who they were as freshmen and how much they’ve grown since then. From maturity to academics and personal interests, many students say they’ve changed in major ways over the past four years.
Senior Cole Gonser said one of the biggest differences is how much he’s matured since freshman year.
“I feel like I’ve changed in every way,” Gonser said. “I’ve matured a lot and I don’t get into trouble as much anymore.”
Gonser also mentioned that his personality has developed over time and he feels like people see him differently now compared to when he first started high school.
“I used to come off a certain way, but I’m not really like that anymore,” he said.
Along with personal growth, Gonser said his lifestyle and interests have changed as well. He no longer plays sports like he used to and is more focused on getting through school and figuring out his future.
“I used to play basketball, but not anymore,” Gonser said. “Now I’m just trying to get through everything and figure things out.”
Senior Jet Janssen also said that his priorities have shifted since freshman year, especially when it comes to school.
“I think I care more about school now,” Janssen said.
Janssen noted that his grades have improved over time, even as his classes have become more challenging.
“My grades are definitely better than freshman year,” he said. “I’m taking harder classes now, even some college-level ones, and I’m still doing pretty good.”
Like Gonser, Janssen said he’s also stepped away from sports since his freshman year.
“I played football, but I don’t anymore,” Janssen said. “I wasn’t very good at it anyway.”
Although their experiences are different, both Gonser and Janssen show how much students can grow throughout high school. Whether it be increased maturity or better academic focus, their reflections highlight the changes many Eagle High seniors experience before moving on to the next chapter of their lives.
