The LSU baseball team is trying to become the first back-to-back champions in the sport since the 2010-2011 South Carolina Gamecocks accomplished this. The Tigers are a top five team nationally in the preseason polls. However, they will face some challenges.
“LSU baseball is always a powerhouse program with a winning history, I think they have a good chance at it again this year,” said senior Carter Ditlove. “They did lose seniors last year to the draft like star pitcher Kade Anderson.”
Of course, LSU plays in the talent rich Southeastern Conference (SEC) which will look to win its seventh consecutive College World Series (CWS) when the season wraps up in June. The SEC has three teams in the top five, five in the top 10 and nine in the top 25.
According to usatoday.com, “The ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) also has nice teams in the top 25.”
For the first time in recent history UCLA baseball is the No.1 team in the preseason top 25. Led by 2025 D1Baseball Player of the Year and potential 1:1 pick in the upcoming 2026 MLB Draft Roch Chowlowsky, a talented shortstop. The Bruins return eight everyday players and 10 of their top 12 pitchers and leaders on the mound. As a team that won 48 games last year and made their way to the CWS, they look to solidify another solid year.
According to NCAA. Com, “UCLA is currently at the top of the preseason ranking, followed closely by LSU, with other teams like Texas and Georgia Tech also making strong bids for the No. 1 spot.”
The upcoming college baseball season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years. With powerhouse programs like LSU and UCLA at the forefront, along with a dominant ACC and SEC, the race for the College World Series could be thrilling.
