With big streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and HBO, movies are easily accessible from home. This year, movie theaters are making a comeback thanks to the dozens of new movies being released. Ranging from horror to romance, there is a variety of movies everyone can enjoy. This year is no exception with the final addition to the “Scream” franchise and the new movie “Project Hail Mary”. This variety gives family and friends plenty of options to see in theaters.
Starting off with a movie that gained popularity tremendously since its release on February 13, “Wuthering Heights”, inspired by the 1847 novel by author Emily Brontë and recreated this year by Oscar winner Emerald Fennell. Starring Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff and Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw, the actor’s stunning performances showcase the chemistry between the two characters. These two grow from childhood friends into something more with plot thickening conflicts that will have the audience sitting in suspense. Senior Kyah Nelson says she would highly recommend this movie, having already seen it.
“It was so good, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time,” Nelson said. “I would honestly recommend to everyone. It is pretty sad towards the end, though.”
The beloved movie saga, “Scream”, has come out with another exciting edition that will bring the sequel to an end. In this movie, the iconic Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell to “Scream 7”, and the original screenwriter Kevin Williamson – now the co-writer and director – has been brought back for the finale. Sidney Prescott, who is Ghostface’s main target in the movies, has survived many of his attacks and ended up making a life for herself. This was, until she’s thrown back into the fight, this time with her daughter, Ghostface’s new focal point. Released Feb. 13, viewers can head to the theaters to see this slasher film. Senior Kaylynne Rice grew up watching the “Scream” series and is ecstatic to see how it comes to an end.
“I love these movies so much. I grew up on them. I’m just so excited to see this last one,” Rice said.
Released March 6, a reimagination of the “Bride of Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley, named “The Bride” is being directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, starring Jessie Buckley as the bride herself and Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster. Set in the 1930s, Frankenstein’s monster asks Dr. Euphronius to create a companion for him, so a murdered woman is brought back to life, sparking love between the two, along with a radical social change as they bring themselves to the light of the public. This punk rock thriller is a must see with friends.
Adored actor Ryan Gosling, who starred as Ken in “Barbie”, now plays a science teacher-turned-astronaut in new movie “Project Hail Mary”. In this exciting action-filled movie, Gosling plays Dr. Ryland Grace, who is chosen to be the hero that saves the dying sun. Aboard the ship, he meets an alien, who he later named Rocky, and they join together to try and save the sun for both their worlds. Head out to the movie theaters March 20 where this heart-pounding movie has been released.
As world famous Michael Jackson goes down in history as the King of Pop, movies about him continue to be released, just like the 2026 movie “Michael”, which will be released on April 24. Jaafar Jackson stars as Michael Jackson and Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the movie brings to light the life Michael Jackson endured as his time during a pop star, it follows his childhood all the way through his lifetime struggles becoming a major celebrity. Those who saw Michael Jackson as a star should sit down and enjoy this film about his life.
