With the spring season opening, March Madness closes with the tournament being a success for the NCAA. The season ender was a highly anticipated matchup with the number two UConn facing off against the number 1 Michigan playing for the National Championship, but with only one team being able to win, the Michigan Wolverines won.
The tournament was one of the best fans and critics have seen in years all the way from the round of 64, to the national championship.
According to ESPN, “This tournament is one to be remember for the significant upsets and the emergence of Cinderella stories… The Big Ten conference has been leading the way with the best tournament record.”
There were several big Cinderella stories or big upsets that not many fans thought would not have happened, such as the number nine Iowa beating the number one Florida, the number five St. Johns beating the number four Kansas and the number 11 Texas upsetting the number three Gonzaga.
Heading into the final four, the teams didn’t really catch fans off guard with the teams making it being expected. The big matches were the number two UConn facing the number three Illinois and the other match up was the number one Arizona versus the number one Michigan.
Both games were not very competitive with UConn winning 71 to 62 and Michigan winning 91 to 73 showing well rounded performances, leading them to winning their games and heading into the National Championship.
The Game was highly anticipated with high tension. Michigan was holding the lead through the game and didn’t give it up, winning 69-63. This was a very dominant season for the Michigan Wolverines, and it shows.
According to CBS Sports, “Michigan’s dominance can be attributed to several key factors such as, there efficiency, scoring power, unselfish play and front court dominance.”
This was a great season and great March Madness for fans and critics alike, with several big upsets, buzzer beaters, dominations and all-around good basketball.
