Entrepreneurship and student-run small businesses are becoming increasingly common, but few know how to embrace their audience as much as junior Daisy Amonson. Amonson caters well to her audience by offering fair, student-affordable prices and using online and in person engagement to grow her clientele for her nail business. Due to her marketing ability and clever use of social media, her clients range from fifth grade girls to students ready to graduate high school.
Amonson’s nail business “Daisy Jade Nails” started with inspiration from her cousin who taught her the basics and inspired her to pursue nails.
Using her bubbly personality and her love of connecting with new people, it was turned from a hobby to a business.
“People come to me because I can talk to them and I make them laugh. My quality is good, and I put in time and effort to make sure they like what they leave with,” she said.
Amonson aims to keep the environment light and fun during her nail appointments.
“We watch movies, we listen to music and I always make sure their nails are specific to exactly what they want,” she said.
To further expand her business, Amonson discovered the quickest way was to embrace her talent and let her art speak for itself. Using previous work she had done on clients she markets to her target audience was simple.
“Let them put your business out. I found the best way is to let people talk, hearing it from a client is more trustworthy than having it come directly from me,” Amonson said.
Using the social technique, she has gained several clients in varying ages.
“I have a whole community of people that come to me now. Some are fifth graders and some are seniors,” Amonson said.

Keeping her target audience in mind, Amonson frequently posts her nail art on social media. Using the algorithm, she can expose her business on a larger scale.
“I have my Instagram account, and I try to post regularly,” she said, “I try and switch up my posts by picking songs specific to the nails so that people are intrigued.” Using these techniques, she expands her client base and can share her art with a wide variety of people.
With Amonson keeping her main audience in mind, her prices are far more student centered than professional salons and competing nail artists the average price of a nail appointment at “Daisy Jade Nails” is around $ 35 to 40 but prices vary based on base coats, charms and difficulty of a clients desired design.
“Daisy Jade Nails” has become increasingly profitable and even allowed her to purchase all new nail equipment from the money the business has made in the past year.
“It’s a great side gig, especially as a teenager,” Amonson said.
Meeting new people and sharing her art, and all while making money is the perfect way for Amonson to expand her entrepreneurial abilities and make meaningful connections along the way.
