As warm weather fills the air, students at Eagle High continue to speed through the track season and share their thoughts on how it’s been so far.
Senior Ambrose Brainard in particular shares that he began participating in track due to his athletic capabilities shown in a previous sport.
“I started off playing basketball for Eagle until I was a junior,” Brainard said. “Jumping a lot in that sport made me want to try doing jump event in track like the long and high jump.”
Although he is only on his second year of track, Brainard is already considered one of the most dominant track athletes in the state of Idaho and currently has a personal record of six-foot eight inches on the high jump. He is tied with the first placeholder in the state of Idaho.
“I never expected to come out and pick up the sport so quick,” Brainard said. “I’m lucky to have the talent to perform so well, and I hope to keep getting better.”
Along with being tied for first in the state for the high jump event, Brainard also holds the first-place spot for the long jump with a jump length of roughly 23 feet.
Some other senior athletes to highlight are none other than some of the track team captains. These include senior Ozzie Faulk who runs the men’s sprints, sophomore Ally Metzger who runs the women’s sprints, Junior Trev Larson who does hurdles, Senior Max Taggart who runs the men’s long distance, Senior Josie Roy who runs women’s long distance, Senior Dax Miner who does men’s jump and finally Senior Aliceann Hillesheim who does women’s jump.
While Eagle track has some highly talented upperclassmen athletes, an upcoming athlete to highlight is sophomore Noah Zaborowski. Zaborowski runs the 100 meter and has high expectations for himself for the rest of his high school track journey.
“I started track freshmen year, and I plan to do it throughout the rest of high school and continue to grow and improve every year,” he said.
With high expectations for himself, Zaborowski knows that he needs to put in the work on and off the field in order to become a better runner for the years to come.
“I need to keep practicing and working on getting faster times if I want to grow as a track athlete,” Zaborowski said. “It’s going to be hard sometimes, but I’m willing to put in the effort to get better.”
With plans like this, Zaborowski should be on track to becoming a better athlete as he continues to make his way towards the finish line of high school.
Overall, Eagle High track is a well-rounded program in the sense that they have good talent in the younger and older athletes. Therefore, they hope to win Districts.
