At Eagle High, two teachers are making a lasting impact on students in very different classrooms yet with the same shared passion for teaching. Krista and Austin Rogerson bring creativity, real-world experience and enthusiasm to their respective subjects, inspiring students across the school.
Krista Rogerson teaches a variety of art classes, including Drawing, Design, Traditional Folk Art and even a Teaching Art in Elementary class. Her classroom is a space where creativity thrives and students are encouraged to explore new skills. From weaving textiles and creating patterns to experimenting with wax resist techniques, which are primarily used in ceramics to create decorative patterns and prevent glaze from sticking to specific areas. Her lessons emphasize hands-on learning and artistic expression.
“They are the best classes at Eagle High. You get to be creative,” Krista Rogerson said. She also enjoys introducing students to traditional crafts and helping them discover new talents. In particular, her beginning art classes hold a special place for her.
“I get students that love art, and some that just took the class to knock out an elective. It’s fun to see all the different types of students and convince them to love art. Everybody can learn,” she said.
Krista Rogerson’s passion for teaching art started early. She knew she wanted to become a teacher at just five-years-old. Today, she brings that lifelong dream into her classroom by helping students solve problems visually and grow creatively.
“I get to create with people all day and create experiences for people to learn and stretch creatively,” Krista Rogerson said.
Just down the hall, Austin Rogerson is preparing students for life beyond high school through his business and marketing classes. He teaches courses such as Business Essentials, Sports and Entertainment Marketing and Occupations and Careers Marketing and Account services.
Austin Rogerson emphasizes real-world application in every lesson.
“Not a day goes by in my class that you are going to learn something just for the fun of it,” he said. “I pride myself in helping students prepare for the future.”
His Sports and Entertainment Marketing class stands out as a student favorite. The course offers hands-on experience in content creation, social media management, photography and client services. Students collaborate with Eagle High’s sports teams, working directly with coaches to produce content and manage team Instagram accounts.
“They’re working with real clients who have real needs,” Austin Rogerson said. “It’s relevant experience in the marketing field.”
Before becoming a teacher, Rogerson spent 15 years working in marketing, an experience he now brings into the classroom through real-life stories and examples. But what he values most is his students.
“The ideas and creativity they have continue to blow me away every day,” he said. “Over time, I’ve become comfortable letting go of my own ideas, because students’ ideas are often better and more relevant.”
Though their subjects differ, both Krista and Austin Rogerson share a commitment to engaging students and helping them grow, whether through artistic expression or practical career skills. Together, the Rogerson duo continues to leave a meaningful mark on Eagle High, proving that passion for teaching can inspire students in every corner of the school.
