The biggest moment of the season for Eagle High wrestlers is the State Tournament. They have been preparing since November for the event which will be taking place on Feb. 27. With hours of grueling practice nearly behind them, they are going into this competition with the utmost confidence that they will represent just how good they are.
In previous years, the team has had a lot of success. Whether its individual, team, girls, or boys’ wrestling, Eagle High has been taking home a title every year.
“I will continue to work hard to try and earn my place in state this year,” said junior Carter Smith. Smith has been wrestling since he was 5 years old and has maintained his highschool state title for as long as he has been competing for it. Smith, along with many others, are prepped to maintain their reputation and possibly even surpass it.
“I am hoping to place this year, after not making it as far last year,” said sophomore Ian Zawadzki.
Eagle High’s varsity wrestling team is made up of high schoolers from all grades, with each person having to earn their spot on the team. Wrestlers duel each other throughout the year to remain on the squad and keep them accountable for their training.
Not only does Eagle High’s boys’ team have a legacy, but the girls’ team also shows up and shows out. They’ll be bringing their A-game to state this year.
“I really want a State title. I lost last year in finals,” said senior Ella Elordi, “Now, I’m a senior, and it would be a nice full circle moment to win this year.” Elordi, like others on the team, has already made an immense impact at past State Tournaments, but she’s still striving for perfection. She has the passion and commitment to carry her to victory this year at State.
The wrestling team is made up of some of Eagle High’s strongest students, mentally and physically. They will be going into this year’s state tournament with a positive mindset and faith that they will return as champions.
