Approaching this upcoming winter, students are retiring their summer clothes and swapping into outfits that are more suitable outfits for the harsh cold. Student favored brands like Ugg and Carhartt, see significant rises in purchases during this season. Eagle High students carefully consider their outfits for the day to stay warm while still striving to be stylish.
The first piece to go from many closets are skirts and jean shorts. Summer is accompanied by light loose skirts and tiny jean shorts to combat the heat, but they are less than ideal for winter apparel.
“In the winter, I tend to go for jeans,” said senior Norah Bush. “I am definitely more covered up and modest in the winter.” Jeans are Bush’s and most others’ bottoms of choice to ensure their legs are hugged with material to battle the low temperatures. This year, teens have been in a frenzy for the trendy low waisted jeans. They are a top pick among jean options.
The next trade to take place is in the shoe category. While sneakers remain a staple through the seasons, slides and sandals must go.
“I wear my Ugg Tasmans the most when it’s cold out. I find they keep my feet the warmest,” said junior Luke Ritter. Boots are an undeniable necessity during winter, especially when snow makes its appearance. Students at Eagle High, and the majority of Idaho, have become familiar with the weather patterns. They prepare for it by collecting more than just one pair of ‘winter shoes’ to last them until the next year.
Winter can be a stressful time for most students no matter what year it is. With the first semester coming to an end and finals creeping up, many students opt for a more comfortable approach to the ‘winter look.’
“In the winter, I wear a lot of sweatsets [sweatpants and sweatshirts] cause it’s comfier and one less thing that I have to worry about the night before,” said junior Alaina Hayhurst. On top of homework and cramming for tests, she often picks outfits the night before like many other students. A positive of this outfit is its convenience in regard to what top, jacket, bottom and shoe to choose.
“Sweatsets are like a three-in-one basically,” Hayhurst said. Students love the fact that a sweatset is less to worry about while still being cute.

Students’ winter outfits are not only stylish but also very practical. Jeans, sweatsets and boots are favorites among Eagle High students and are guaranteed to be seen throughout the halls this winter season.
