The Eagle Lightning Dance Team has had an amazing season so far. The team has been working so hard all year preparing for their end goal of succeeding at state. State is March 1 and the team has had two competitions so far. An unfortunate event happened right before they went on stage to perform at their last competition, the Idaho State Invitational. Head captain, senior Sydnee Seeley, sprained her ankle, and the coaches took her out of all the dances right before the team took the floor since she couldn’t walk. Team leaders juniors Alexa Shannahan and Bria Davis and senior Sammatha Gorman kept a positive attitude the whole time and made sure the team was calm and prepared.
“This was a very stressful moment for our team, but I knew we could get through it,” Gorman said.
The dancers have been practicing twice as much as they normally do. They have had morning practice from 5:45a.m. to 7:15a.m. four days a week Monday through Thursday the weeks leading up to districts. The dancers feel prepared and are eager to hit the district floor and be successful.
“We have had some bumps in the road, but we are so ready to compete and excited for what’s in store,” said sophomore Birklie Smith.
The team is competing in four routines: military, kick, dance and hip hop. If they place all four routines at districts, they will make it to state. The dance team is led by a great group of coaches: head coach Christina Shell, Jillia Romano and Delaney Schow that are very dedicated to this team and ready to dominate the rest of this season.
