With the holiday season in full swing, Eagle High student leadership invites students to practice the spirit of giving with a toy drive and fundraiser. Eagle’s student leadership clubs are responsible for donation management and advertising the project. Student Council, Sources of Strength, NHS and Key Club are all working together to make this goal a possibility. Toys, clothes and money are being donated to a local elementary school within the district to make Christmas giving a reality for the young students there. The student body is invited to help with the project for the greater good.
“They have really awesome academics and they come from a lot of different walks of life, and I know I love to give gifts to my loved ones,” said Sources of Strength advisor and teacher Sarah Richins. “I would be really touched to get help to do that, so I know the little kids are going to be really appreciative.” To help manage the fundraiser, Sources of Strength oversees collecting donations during every 2A class period till the end of the first semester.
Every class has donation ideas and suggested items to bring along with a container for cash donations in their 2A class.
“The goal is to create a fake store for the elementary students, so that they can buy gifts for their loved ones using academic achievement as currency. So, we’re going to be donating money and gifts for them to shop,” Richins explained. It is important that we collect a wide range of items because these items are not only for the kids, but for their parents, siblings and friends.

To increase student participation, there are several possible rewards for classes with a high number of donations. Student leadership clubs have reached out to several local businesses in hopes of supplying rewards.
If the student body reaches $500 in donations, teacher Matthew Miller will shave his head at the end of winter assembly. Similarly, if the target goal of $3,500 in donation money is reached, media and finance teacher Austin Rogerson will be “bedazzling” his head with jewels and glitter at the winter assembly.
This donation program will not only increase morale and the spirit of giving within the school community, it will also be spread throughout the district. Students are encouraged to give what they can and encourage others to do the same.
