From new music and artists, sports and entertainment, to new slang and social media trends, 2025 has produced a year full of memorable pop culture.
Pop culture is something that defines a year in many ways and it is often remembered years later and reflected on in years to come. It is safe to say that many will look back on the pop culture of 2025.
First off, this year was big for many musical artists. Taylor Swift released a new album entitled “The Life of a Showgirl” which took over charts, with popular songs like “The Fate of Ophelia” surging through music platforms. Many other artists also released new albums that broke records such as: Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean, Drake, Tame Impala, Danial Caesar, Morgan Wallen, Tyler the Creator and more.
The year started out with a Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, with the Eagles taking a sweeping 40-22 victory after being defeated by Kansas 38-35 in 2023. This year was also a remarkable year for women’s sports as they grew in popularity and gained support from throughout the world. All in all, sports are always a dominating factor in pop culture and continued to dominate throughout 2025.
So much entertainment also surged during 2025, movies like “Wicked for Good” have had immense success in theaters.
According to Reuters.com, “‘Wicked: For Good’ brought in $150 million in the U.S. and Canada in its opening weekend, setting a record for a film adaptation of a Broadway musical and ranking among the best-performing movie musicals of all time.”
This movie is defying odds and bringing in new numbers never seen, while also making a cultural impact and becoming a major talking point across social media platforms.
In addition to this, during the shows 34th season from Sept. 16, 2025-Nov. 25, 2025, “Dancing with the Stars” blew up on social media. The show hit new viewing records, and many enjoyed making TikTok’s and supporting their favorite teams on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Another thing that shaped 2025 pop culture was new slang like “67”, “cooked”, “insane work” and more spread across the internet and high schools, leaving many laughing, annoyed or confused at their use. Social media seemed to further these new slang words.
Finally, social media played a big role in shaping 2025 pop culture. TikTok controlled what became popular with videos, songs and movie clips. What was viral on TikTok got people interested and made the project much more popular.
Many students at Eagle High have noticed just how much social media has influenced pop culture.
“I think social media has the biggest impact on pop culture, cause a lot of people follow what’s trending on TikTok more than anything else,” said junior Leighton Archer.
Overall, 2025 pop culture was very dense and will carry into the new year, it will always be remembered.
