Eagle High’s spring sports are full of competition and spirit as the school year comes to an end. One of the sports that is in the spotlight is softball and so far, they are having an exciting season. They started the season off with a win, beating Ridgeview High in their first conference game of the season.
The girls used the pre-season to get to know one another and improve their connection while working together as a team. Of course, their practices and training have brought them closer together, but their off the field work and team bonding has helped them work together as one. Like most of the sports teams at Eagle High, the softball team goes to team lunches before games and has team dinners on game days.
“For one of our team bonding plans we went to top golf,” said junior London Sanfilipo-Cook who plays outfield. “It was actually a great way for all of us to get our competitive spirits on together.”
This year, the head coach for the team is Nicole Rollins, who has been coaching at Eagle High for over ten years, is a team favorite and has led the girls through many competitive seasons.
So far, the conference season is going well, with players like junior Ellie McManigal who plays short stop and junior Peyton Bargen who pitches have each hit six home runs. As well as having very few fielding errors as they progress into the season.
Their most recent game against Owyhee High wasn’t quite the outcome they hoped for, as they did pick up a loss against the undefeated team. However, they have taken what they can improve upon and are planning to use that feedback to come back stronger.
“It was a tough game,” said junior Brooke Frame. “But I think that it is definitely a motivation to do better.”
Overall, the season is looking to be one full of intense games and exciting outcomes. With the season still being early, the future is bright, and the girls are working towards a potential win at districts and state for Eagle High.
