Senior Makenzie Baisch is a very accomplished track athlete, however, this year she is taking her craft to new heights with faster times and longer marks. Baisch has competed for various club track programs throughout her life, as well as the Eagle High track and field team all four years of high school.
Around a month into the high school season, Baisch holds the best time at the 300m hurdles of this season in Idaho with a time of 45.04 seconds. She set this personal record at Boise Relays which is an invitation for qualifying athletes. Baisch is beyond committed to her craft. This is one of the many reasons she got a personal record in the first meet of the year, which is considered rare.
“I have been running track for ten years. I run summer and winter with a club and the spring season with Eagle High,” Baisch said. “Sophomore year I placed third in the 100m hurdles and sixth in the 300m hurdles, junior year I placed third in both the 100m and 300m hurdles last year.”
In each competition this year, Baisch has either dropped time or ran a very consistent time. Earlier in the season in the second meet, Baisch was given the opportunity to run at the Alpha Invitational in Orem, Utah. She did very well, and she was a major reason that the Eagle High girls team placed second in the competition.
Baisch’s goal for this year is to break the school record for the 300m hurdles where she is less than half a second away. This is obviously due to her hard work and determination, but she also attributes it partially to the coaching and leadership from Eagle High’s revamped coaching staff.
“All of the coaches are awesome, and I believe that they know what they are doing and have great training and a great program in place for the athletes to succeed,” Baisch said.
Baisch is committed to running Division One track at Westpoint, which is the U.S. Military Academy in New York. Westpoint is also where senior Jacon Farmer has committed to for pole vault.
Baisch has an exciting track season and career ahead of her.
