‘Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ Has a Chance to Be Movie of the Year

Many fans have been waiting for years for another “Hunger Games” movie. The first four movies released, focused on Katniss Everdeen and her story of the games and rebellion. The new movie is a prequel that shows the story of Lucy Gray Baird.

Baird is a girl from district twelve who is reaped to be in the Hunger Games. She makes an immediate first impression on the capital citizens and the other districts by singing after being reaped. She is transported to the capital not long after to prepare for the games.

Upon arriving in the capital, the audience is introduced to her mentor Coriolanus Snow. Many fans know that he eventually becomes President Snow and is responsible for countless deaths. This movie focuses on the Snow, that is still young and not yet evil.

It is split into three parts within the movie. Readers of the book have noted that the book follows a very similar format. Some fans feel that part three of the movie feels very rushed. Even though this movie is the longest of the series, sitting at two hours and thirty-seven minutes, some fans are left wanting more.

“I really enjoyed this movie. It really got to teach us about the story of Coriolanus Snow,” said sophomore Austin Hartnett.

This movie is a highly rewatchable film. Some fans say that part three should have been its own movie. This would have allowed them to go into more detail in Snow’s story.

According to variety.com, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds and Snakes feels like a natural extension of the saga, balancing blood sport, endangered young love and a heightened level of political commentary.”

This movie was great. It is a must see for any Hunger Games fan. It is full of Character development and an amazing story.
