The very first musical play of ‘Wicked’ came out in October of 2003. It was produced by Universal Stage Productions. A little over 21 years later the play is getting made into a movie.
“Wicked” is a stage musical that was created by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman. The musical was created because of the novel titled “Wicked’ written by Gregory Maguire. This book was a reiteration of L. Frank Baum’s novel “The wonderful Wizard of Oz,” and the movie based off that book created by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
According to www.broadwayworld.com, “Wicked looks at what happened to the Land of Oz… but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin, who is smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent.” Besides the Wicked Witch of the West, which is the emerald-green witch in the Wizard of Oz, and main character in “Wicked,” also sees how rivalry can turn into an unlikely friendship. However, what will happen when the people of Oz labels one “good” and one “wicked?”
The movie version of “Wicked” is coming out in two parts. Part one was going to come out Nov. 22, 2024 after it was originally planned to who on Nov, 27.
According to www.ABCNews.com, “Director Jon M. Chu and Universal Pictures announced that the release date for “Wicked: Part 1” has moved up five days earlier from its original date and will now shift to Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.” While this is exciting news, when part two comes out is not as exciting. The second will come out almost a full year later on Nov. 26, 2025.
The cast for wicked has Grammy, Tony and Emmy award winning Cynthia Erivo starring as the main character, Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. On the other hand, best pop duo and group as well as best pop vocal album and holder of two Grammys, Ariana Grande, is staring as Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. Besides these two notable actors, Jonathan Bail is playing Fiyero, Marissa Bode is Nessarose and Ethan Slater is playing Boq.
