The Eagle High boys wrestling team celebrates their win in the Donney Duals silver bracket. Sophomore Dylan Frothinger, senior Wylie Stone, senior Sebastian Delgado and junior Anthoney Toomey stand undefeated by the end of the day.

With the first quarter already being over, winter is finally here, which means winter sports are ready to begin. Coach Michael Stone is this year’s head coach for the Eagle High wrestling team, and the team is led by captains senior Wylie Stone, senior Andrew Ferguson and junior Anthony Tommey.

Wrestling is a tough sport that takes much training and hard work. This team has boys and girls that work hard to improve their skills. They practice every day after school in the wrestling room for about two hours, starting with a warmup and stretches, then drills and ending with conditioning.

The team has done very well in the past with the girls being three-time state champions. Although the boys have not been crowned state champions in a few years, they are all still driven and motivated, said sophomore Tommy Stone. Even though this would be considered an individual sport, each member works hard to win for their overall team.

The team just traveled to Donnelly Duels for their very first tournament the weekend of Dec. 2. They went 7-0 and won the silver bracket.

“I am excited to wrestle this year and see how we will do as a team,” said sophomore Dylan Frothinger. “Our team looks strong so far and is looking to do well at state.”

With a good history of winning, Frothinger is looking forward to the accomplishments that Eagle will have this year. This is his second year being on the team and he has really connected with the team and the coaches. Even though this is not his first year and he has already formed a friendship with his older teammates, Frothinger is looking forward to meeting any new and incoming students.

“I am excited to see how my first high school season goes with a new coach and in new surroundings. I can see that this team has passion and is ready to get back at it,” said freshman Nash Weight. Weight has wrestled for three years now and is ready to take on the high school level competition.

Tommy Stone is another talented member of the wrestling team. As the daughter of the coach, she is a great asset to the team. Tommy Stone is a part of Eagle High’s wrestling team as well as the rugby team.

“I am excited to work hard with all these athletes and watch them win and learn more about a sport that I love,” Stone said.

This team’s hoping to start this season how they ended their last. With a full season ahead, this team has a lot to look forward to with an amazing season and new players.
