Here at Eagle High, Senior Assassin is taking over. Seniors spend hours “hunting” one another just to survive to the next round. Every one of the participants is after the monetary reward awaiting the winners at the end of the game.
The game began on March 23. Students formed and paid an entry fee prior to joining the game. All students’ entry fees were put together to form the winner’s reward. The current amount sits at $2,000 for the winning team. The money is split between the three members of the winning team. A team of three is tasked with a target, another team of three. The team must find and spray their target with a water gun all while recording it to eliminate them. Each player has one piece of immunity, usually goggles, that protects them from being eliminated. Immunity must be worn and visible on the player’s head in order to protect them.
Each day, a purge time is chosen at random for that night. A wheel is spun by Savannah Flake, who runs the whole game, to determine the time. The purge is a period of time where anyone can be eliminated because no immunity is allowed. During the purge, all players’ locations must be visible for the team hunting them. Leaving the house at any point during the purge puts a player in danger, so many stay inside.
“The most challenging part is when your targets stay inside during the purge and don’t go anywhere. It makes them impossible to get,” said senior Ally Godfrey. There is also no immunity on Saturday or Sunday and player locations must be on for three hours each day during the weekend. All seniors are on an app that allows their location to be visible during purge times. No matter the time of the purge, there are still limitations on who can be attacked. Students at sports practices, in church, and working cannot be eliminated.
Despite having to protect themselves, players also must eliminate their targets within a reasonable amount of time. If a team does not successfully eliminate at least one member of their target team in a week, the attacking team is eliminated. If a member of one team is eliminated but the rest survive the week, the whole team is allowed back into the game for the next round.
The game is very time consuming, and, in order to win, commitment is necessary.
“We probably spent four hours this week hunting our targets,” Godfrey said. If the time is put in and a team is committed, then they can come out on top.
The winning team is the last team standing after the rest have been eliminated. All rules and information are provided by the Instagram page. Senior assassin is a big part of senior year that many look forward to. Now the seniors are in it and ready to win.
