The second semester of the 2025-2026 school year at Eagle High is already three months in and SAT season is coming fast. Students should start studying for this intimidating test now to feel prepared and ready when the test date arrives.
Eagle High’s SAT test date is April 2, about three weeks away. All juniors are required to take the SAT unless their parents chose to opt them out and will therefore be excused from the test. School provided laptops are the only devices that students can use to take the test and should be aware of this on test day.
The Eagle High College and Career Counsellor is Anna Bemis. Her room is located next to the counselor’s office, and students are welcome to ask her any questions that may come up during the few weeks before the SATs.
Bemis is an expert on preparation for the SATs, and she has many important tips for students to put into use the weeks before the test.
“Usually, some of the best tips are going to be the official practice tests and test sites like College Board,” Bemis said. “One of the most important things when doing practice tests is to go back over the questions you missed, as well as timing yourself when practicing.”
There are also other official practice testing sites like Khan Academy. The practice tests provided on this website have been designed to give questions similar to the ones on the real SAT. Even doing one of these practice tests once or twice before the test can be very beneficial.
An additional study tip that could be very helpful is making a study plan. This means to schedule out the upcoming weeks into topics that need to be studied and specify how long they should be studied for.
“Focus on every week or two, a different area, like certain math topics or English and study on what you’re most lacking in,” Bemis said. “Since it’s three weeks out, it’s important to take the extra time working on the skills you need the most work in.”
Some students may think the SATs are unimportant because only about 30% of colleges require or strongly recommend students to send their scores in for admission. However, SAT scores can help a lot when applying for scholarships.
“It will be used for merit-based scholarships. It’s important to take the test even if admission does not require the scores to be accepted,” Bemis said. “Some schools will also use it for placement and classes that won’t be needed to take based on their scores.”
So, even if students at Eagle High have a college chosen that doesn’t require taking the SAT, it can still be useful to them financially.
Eagle High students should use these tips to prepare for the intimidating test and remember not to stress and do their best. There are numerous amounts of resources available for students who are nervous or want to be prepared.
