With Valentine’s Day being on students’ minds, romance movies are a popular watch during the month of February. Whether it be a romantic comedy, romantic drama or a historical romance, all these genres are shown during the season of love.
Students are very passionate about their favorite romance movie when posed the question.
“My all-time favorite is ‘10 Things I Hate About You’,” junior Reese May said. “I like the characters in it, especially Kat Stanford.”
“10 Things I Hate About You” has been a popular rom-com since the early 2000s.
According to boxofficemojo.com, the film had a worldwide box office gross of about $53.5 million.
The film remains popular with its relatable teen theme and iconic scenes. Similar to May, junior Lauren Damiani has a similar taste in movies.
“I like a lot of romance movies, but I think the best is ‘The Proposal’,” Damiani said.
“The Proposal” is comedy romance directed by Anne Fletcher, that introduces an enemy into lovers’ concept between the two main characters.
“I like it because it’s funny and I would consider it my comfort movie,” Damini said.
On the other hand, some students prefer more drama-filled films.
“’Return to Me’ is such a great movie,” junior Evie Whiting said. “It’s centered around family and doing what you love, and I like stupid love, it makes the plot more interesting.”
Unlike May, Whiting’s least favorite romance movie is “10 Things I Hate About You”.
“I think it’s overrated, it has too many rom-com clichés, and I just find it cringy,” she said.
Although this movie is a big hit amongst millions of people, some individuals beg to differ. Another movie that has controversial opinions is, “The Kissing Booth.”
“It’s definitely a hard watch. The writing is super corny,” said Damiani.
This movie has been hyped up by many teens across the world, but not all students at Eagle High appreciate the clichés the movie has to offer.
Although everyone appreciates a different genre of films, many movie lovers gravitate towards romance during the month of February. Whether it’s “10 Things I Hate About You” or “The Proposal”, students will be relaxing and watching a comforting movie on Valentine’s Day.
