As new cars are coming out with crazy features and better technology, it raises the question, what age of cars do people prefer, newer or older?
In the past, there have been notable cars such as the Ford Mustang, Ferrari 250 GT and the 1960 Chevrolet Corvette as they are known for their old look and older feel with the interior and exterior, but a serious concern about them is safety.
According to thedrive.com, “Lack of modern safety features, many older cars lack critical safety systems… There is an increased rate of fatality while driving a car older than 18 years increasing the likelihood of dying by 71 percent.”
With newer cars, there are notable ones such as the Porshe 718 Boxster, BMW m4 and the Corvette c8. These cars are more modern and are up to date with performance differences; more fuel efficiency, more comfortable interiors and compared to older cars, tend to be more reliable.
“They have more modern technology and are easier and smoother to drive,” said sophomore Zachary Coates. “With my favorite car being the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante, its newer technology makes the car better.”
Even though older cars don’t have the best technology, the nostalgic look and cool look give them an edge. Since some people love that look, it’s a key reason why they are still talked about today. Sophomore Cruz Austin told why he thinks older cars are better than newer cars.
“Old cars have a charm new one can’t match; they don’t use all the fancy electronics to stay running. They might have a bit of rust here and there, but when they roar to life, it’s worth the TLC,” he said.
Both older and newer cars seem to be popular at Eagle High, with some loving the sounds of older cars and not caring about the technology in it while others like newer technology and the safety aspect of it.
