The Festival of Trees occurred on Nov. 26 this year at the Boise Centre for $14 per ticket. The annual event’s purpose is to assist in raising funds and awareness for Saint Alphonsus’ Cancer Research Institution.
This festival happens most years and aims to bring Idaho’s community together for the winter holidays by raising money for the Institute of Cancer Research. It includes hundreds of decorated trees that are auctioned off to bidders. The earnings are sent directly to Saint Alphonses.
Eagle High’s Student Council played an active role in this year’s festival. They decorated a tree and participated in the event. Council members Sophomore Hatcher Swenson, Junior Ellie Davis, Senior Sarah Kemp, and Senior Maddy Jones were active collaborators and key contributors to making sure their tree was at the festival this year.
Raising money for those who fight cancer is so important. Families that are affected by cancer deserve assistance and appreciate any help during the holidays.
“[Families who I know that have] been affected by cancer, would probably really be thankful for anyone who could raise them extra funds for Christmastime,” said senior Chloe Franks.
The event brings people together as community gathers to support its cause. Volunteers get to participate in decorating a tree for the festival. Not to mention, it’s fun to pick themes and organize the tree that is being brought.
According to Idaho Press, the decorated trees range from using pinecones and mistletoe, to bows, ribbons and small and large items like stuffies or toys
Attending the event with loved ones can be entertaining too. Bidding can be exciting, but there are also live performances as well as large scale Lego creations to view.
“It’s super cute and a fun activity to do with family,” said junior Vienna Perry.
The Boise Festival of Trees goes on from Nov. 25 to Dec. 1, but for anyone who missed it, it has happened annually. Trying to attend next year would be the perfect kick off to the winter holidays.
