As the holiday season rolls around, so does an age-old debate: is Christmas or Thanksgiving the better holiday?
Although these holidays are both different in many ways, people love to compare them since they are so close together in the year.
“I personally prefer Christmas over Thanksgiving because me and my family have fun traditions, and I love the holiday spirit and presents,” said junior Ambree Marlett.
The love of the holidays is usually rooted in the nostalgic family traditions that many people look forward to every year.
“During Christmas, my whole family stays at our house,” Marlett said. “On Christmas morning, we eat crepes and open presents together.”

Both Thanksgiving and Christmas usually include a family dinner that brings everyone together, but only one of these holidays includes gifts.
“I like Christmas better because I get gifts,” said junior Charlie Moore.
Moore shared that he likes having dinner with his family on Thanksgiving but looks forward more to the surprise factor of presents at Christmas time. Marlett agrees with this statement as she also looks forward to the fun of giving and receiving gifts with her loved ones.
Christmas is also rooted from the birth of Jesus Christ, and many celebrate for that reason, making it a more meaningful holiday than others. Junior Nicola Forbess also agrees that Christmas is the better holiday because of her religious beliefs and family traditions.
“I spend Christmas with my grandpa every year and it makes its special,” said Forbess. “I am also a Christian so it’s a really big deal to me and my family to celebrate the birth of Jesus.”
Overall, even though both holidays are special and fun for different reasons, it seems as though students of Eagle High school prefer Christmas over Thanksgiving.
