The Eagle High cross country team is looking forward to another great season as they practice; they start with basic runs to the gas station and back. The runs progressively get longer and harder as they get ready for their first race. The team meets three miles long, which is equal to five kilometers.
Coach Sweney, Nick Hampton and Casey Senethavilay said one thing this team has done well without complaining about the workouts. Many athletes hate the process they must do before every run or race, but they understand it helps with speed and persistence to keep going.
Throughout the season, many upperclassman athletes plan to take it to the next level this year. Junior Betsy Reeder, sophomore Brooks Moss and junior Carter Brown, all have the talent to run long distances and make it look easy.
According to coach Casey Senethavilay, the Bob Frimann race was the most important race out of the season. This is an optional race at eagle island state park. “That every school nationwide comes together and races against each other,” said junior Josh Gray.
Senior Josie Roy, junior Brielle Patterson and sophomore Jack Lamm, enjoyed every moment and had a blast.
The team had state on Nov. 1, which was their last race. The coaches had prepared all year for this moment to watch so many athletes enjoy their time and see if they could beat their personal record.
“One of the most fun parts of running is working out and spending quality time with your peers,” said senior Drew Washow. “I love getting to know the coaches better than a person. They also push me to get better and improve every day.”
