As the winter season quickly approaches, so do nostalgic, yummy treats. Winter baking can bring out the taste of holiday memories that many people look forward to all year.
“Baking in the winter is pretty special to me because I got some of my recipes from my grandma,” said junior Weston Anderson. “I also used some of mom’s recipes then added a little holiday twist.”
Baking with loved ones is another reason why this season is so special for students. Anderson also shared that he loves baking with his grandma since he doesn’t get to see her too often and he feels like baking helps bring them together.

“Ginger snaps are my favorite because they remind me of the wintertime and they are delicious and toffee my grandparents send my family toffee every year, so now I make it,” said junior Nicola Forbess.
The tradition of making recipes every year usually are rooted in the family tree. Similarly to Anderson, Forbess shared that making her grandma’s recipes makes her feel like she is more connected with her family. She plans on baking these winter recipes with her future kids, so the recipes continue down the family line.
“My favorite recipe to bake in the wintertime is gingerbread cookies because they are very festive, and I feel like gingerbread ingredients are more accessible in the wintertime,” Anderson said.
Gingerbread is arguably one of the most popular wintertime treats, whether it’s cookies, muffins or a gingerbread house. Anderson brings up a good point that stores mostly promote flavors like gingerbread and peppermint during the winter season, causing people to associate those tastes with the season even if they don’t mean to.
Overall, students at Eagle High seem to love baking in the winter and have many yummy recipes they traditionally make.
