School dances are a defining part of most people’s adolescence. Adults look back on old prom photos and reminisce about those moments that are now memories. Eagle High only hosts the Homecoming Dance and Prom. This year, the school has been invited to combine with neighboring schools for an additional dance to make high school more memorable. This dance is similar to a Sadie Hawkins style of dance as it is a country themed girls-ask-guys dance.
After the collaboration between Eagle High, Rocky Mountain High and Meridian High’s student governments, the combined-school Hoedown dance was created. The Hoedown country dance is on Nov. 15 at Rocky Mountain High from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. Rocky Mountain High initially created the dance and invited other schools to join them.
“[Rocky Mountain High senior] Paige Thomason and I came up with this dance last year and are so excited to have more schools join us. We have been planning this dance for a couple months now and our school is so excited,” said senior Miri Christianson. The organizers are passionate about this event and have reached out to many people to make it happen.
Eagle High students have been longing for more opportunities to go to dances.
“We’ve been wanting another dance that is girl-ask-guy. People often want to ask their dates that are from other schools to a dance,” said senior India Taylor. Taylor is in Eagle High’s student council and is collaborating with Christianson, a member of Rocky Mountain High’s student government. Christianson helped make that possible by thoughtfully planning the dancing and making the preparations for it.

“We have asked Meridian High School and Eagle High School to join us at this amazing country dance. The purpose of this dance is for individuals to have a fun time swing dancing and line dancing to country music,” Christianson said. Rocky High’s student government is excited for this dance and wants everyone to feel included.
“Students can bring a date or come with a big group of friends. Everyone should wear their best country fit and have a great time on the dance floor,” Christianson said. Students are encouraged to dress their best and have fun. The schools in the Treasure Valley are working on advertising this dance to the students and making it more enticing.
Students from the three schools are preparing for their western night of music and memories. The Hoedown is more than just a dance; it’s a celebration of high school communities and friendships.
