TSA, or the Technical Student Association, is a student organization meant to engage students in STEM activities at school. TSA allows students to get hands on with STEM and work together to compete for medals and trophies. Eagle High’s chapter of TSA has over 70 STEM activities and competitions for students to compete in across the US. The US nationals for this club are in Orlando, Florida in June. At this point, it is known that the Eagle High team has qualified for nationals.
“We meet during lunch, sometimes during advisory we’ll meet,” said sophomore and club member Parker Bowlden when asked about TSA.
Club members meet in Mr. Hessing’s room, S203. They discuss upcoming competitions, previous wins and other club related activities such as the specific aspects they wish to improve on and honing what they are good at. There’s lots of ways to get involved, including drag racing with RC cars and designing a bridge. And though students will have to pay club fees, students get their money’s worth. The fee is only $13.00.
“There’s a ton of different categories to join, so it’s really up to you what you want to do,” Bowlden said. Bowlden enjoys the club and the seemingly limitless number of options to try out. The most recent competition for TSA was at the West Ada District building the first week of March. Some students placed in the top three and have the opportunity to go on to nationals this summer.
TSA is a fun, engaging club for all STEM loving students to enjoy and is planning to let students join next year with applications. You don’t need any prior experience to sign up and all Students will have to pay an admission fee for the club, but it’s just a superficial charge to keep the club running smoothly and make sure students have the best experience possible.
