Basketball plays an important role at Eagle High. It brings both students and families together because of the connections each of the players has with one another. Each season shows teamwork and spirit at the school.
“Basketball truly makes me feel awesome,” said junior Sam Palfreyman.
Jackson Hayhurst, Samuel Palfreyman, Luke Ritter, Jayden Rogers-Warren, Luke Sampson, Austin Shipp, Cole Cavalli, Nixon Edwards, Oliver Kochivar, Quinten Picard and Max Newby are on the JV basketball team.
Palfreyman started playing basketball when he was five years old, and has enjoyed playing it since then. Starting this sport off so young helps one develop the intensity of the game.
“Basketball is a very fast paced sport and that is also why I enjoy it,” he said.
Palfreyman also commented that he mostly plays basketball because all his friends do as well. In his opinion, this makes the team so put together because it shows the friendships that started with basketball.
“My favorite teammate is Oliver Kochivar because we get along very good,” Palfreyman said.
The sport of basketball can be intimidating. Palfreyman said the most points he had scored in a game was 18 points, which was very stressful for him to do.
“My favorite game that we had played this season was against Boise High,” Palfreyman said. “I liked it because it was competitive.”
Another big aspect of basketball is sportsmanship. Sportsmanship comes with the turnover of some teammates year after year. Seniors this year are saying their final goodbyes as the season comes to a close.
“My favorite senior is Evan Vittoe, and I am going to be sad when he leaves,” Palfreyman said.
Palfreyman appreciates the Eagle High basketball program, especially his coach. He feels very lucky to be part of this community and it brings joy to him and his teammates.
