“The Game Awards” kicked off a three-hour live ceremony on YouTube and other sites, On Dec. 11, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. The show is used to recognize the amazing games released over the course of the year revealing new games that are currently in development and feature musical performances.

The opportunity for the gaming community to come together and celebrate is what makes the show so special to many people.

“Every year, this show reminds us how video games matter… and experiences that challenge inspire and connect us like nothing else, ” said the host of “The Game Awards” Geoff Keighley.

The 2025 “Game Awards” was especially historic as it broke several records including the largest number of active viewers, the most nominations for a single game and the most awards won by one game; “Clair Obscure: Expedition 33”.

Throughout the event, a multitude of new games were announced to be releasing in the coming year. Some of the highlights included the return of “Tomb Raider,” “Ace Combat” and the “LEGO Batman” series. Other titles were also revealed to be in development but did not yet have clear release dates.

Although game announcements are a major highlight of “The Game Awards,” they are not the main attraction. That honor goes to the awards themselves, which recognize the best games across several categories. It is important to note that voting for these categories is not based solely on public votes but also includes a jury made up mostly of video game critics.

Even though many outstanding games were nominated, there was a clear MVP of the show: “Clair Obscure: Expedition 33”. Released in early 2025 the game not only earned the most nominations in “Game Awards” history, with a total of 12, but also won the most awards ever, taking home nine and falling just short of double digits.

“Expedition 33” ultimately won game of the year.

“A massive thank you to players for all your covers your fan art your endless arguing about which ending is the good one—that’s wonderful to read,” the game’s director Guillaume Broche said. According to Broche, this was the first game he had made with his team, making the overwhelming support and praise especially meaningful for both the developers and the gaming community.

The 2025 “Game Awards” was a landmark event that highlighted the creativity, passion and impact of the gaming industry. From record-breaking achievements to exciting new announcements and the historic success of “Clair Obscure: Expedition 33”, the ceremony showcased why video games continue to inspire and connect players around the world.
