As Eagle High school football kicks off, excitement is in the air and players have the state championship on their radar.
Having this ready-mindset going into the season is bound to get the Mustangs to where they want to be, but the work the Mustangs have been putting in during the offseason shouldn’t be ignored either. Junior Landon Bult, the varsity team’s starting tight end, said that he has been putting in the work on and off the field.
“I’ve been working on fundamentals, strength, stamina and footwork over the summer,” said Bult.
In addition to this, Eagle high’s coaching staff has been pushing the players to perform their best at practice. Varsity head coach James Cluph, along with his staff has been working with the players all summer to get them ready for the season. Bult said that he looks up to coach Craig Lebeau who specifically has had a coaching impact on him while preparing for the season.
“I look up to coach Lebeau, he’s a dog. He pushes me to perform my best no matter what,” Bult said.
Coaching is important for the mustangs this year, especially since they have some tough games coming up. One game in particular that will be a challenge this season will be against Mountain View. Although the Mustangs beat Mountain view last year, the Mavericks have brought in more players to their varsity team that may make them a tougher team to beat.

On the other side of the ball, junior Luke Mikita, the varsity team’s starting outside linebacker said that the team’s chemistry this year is better than ever. He pointed out Senior Zay Wright, the team’s starting safety is a great teammate.
“Zay is a great leader on the team. I always see him being nice to other players, whether he knows them or not,” Mikita said.
Many could say that things are looking good for the Mustangs this year. With the hard work from the players that they have been putting in since January and support from the coaches and staff, the Mustangs are ready to take on the field.
