On February. 26 and March 1, Eagle High wrestlers competed in State Competitions for a chance for a state title. Wrestlers qualified through district competition. To attend this prestigious event, wrestlers both male and female had to place top 10 in their respective weight classes. One of these was junior wrestler Anthony Butler.
“I ended up winning districts which was a very exciting accomplishment for me. I ended up getting fourth in state but I’m excited for next season to hopefully take home that state title, said junior Anthony Butler.
Other male wrestlers that earned an entry into this event for are junior Dylan Frothinger (120), sophomore Corbin Christensen (138), freshman Ian Zawadski (150), junior James Ferguson (157), freshman Camden Harrison (165), junior Anthony Butler (165), senior Antonio Genovesi (175), senior Connor LeBeau (175), senior Alexis Gonzalez (190) and senior Anthoney Toomey (285). Toomey took second in State for the weight class and Genovesi placed first, taking a state title.
“State did not go how I wanted it to go. I loved being on team and have enjoyed my time as an Eagle High wrestler, it’ll be cool to seeing how State goes next year for the future Eagle High wrestlers,” Toomey said.
Girls who made state include junior Tommy Stone (107), junior Kate Senada (145), freshman Gemma LeBeau (152), sophomore Ellie Davis (152), junior Ella Elordi (165), senior Emry Woods (185) and senior Keleigh Russel-Smith (235).
Overall, Eagle High had a very successful season which resulted in many placements in State Competition. The program is already looking forward to the next season with athletes and coaches getting ready for a dominant season from the Eagle High wrestlers.
