The Eagle High girls’ basketball team finished their season by winning their way to the State Championship bracket. Unfortunately, with losing the first round of this bracket to Madison High it brought their run in the winners bracket to an end. The final score being 48-45 at the Ford Idaho Center. This wasn’t exactly the ending to a strong season the girls were hoping for, yet the fight to get there brought the girls closer.
The team has always been a part of the Mustang school spirit that the students support, and many Eagle High students showed up for games throughout the season. Eagle High brought an impressive crowd to the Ford Idaho Center to support the girls at State, and even though they ended up taking the loss, the support from the students was electric.
The girls were motivated throughout the season to overcome challenges and to get to know each other, and had many team-bonding moments and gatherings to boost their morale.
“I think the biggest challenges we faced were probably playing as a team,” said junior Peyton Taylor. “I think off the court we were very cohesive, but on the court there seemed to be a divide between players and starters.”
Despite having to overcome issues with chemistry on the court, the girls had a huge win against Owyhee High, which was a pivotal moment in their season.
“Beating Owyhee was amazing because they were undefeated in the state and had previously beaten us,” said Taylor.
The 2025 season, though it ended earlier than the team would’ve wanted, overcoming the challenges and working together was a highlight for every player. The juniors and sophomores are excited and motivated to make next year even better, and their eyes are set on that state championship title.
