Eagle High has a wonderful basketball program according to the players. Their dedication is unmatched. The team works very hard to prepare for the season and works hard during the season by having practice three to four times a week
“I love playing basketball here at Eagle High not only is the program good, but the environment is also very good,” said varsity senior captain Gaige Wall.
The basketball tryouts for boys were Nov. 15 and Nov. 16. Only 15 people make the team, 12 players and three swing players. So, the competition to make the team is high. During tryouts, coach Cody Pickett makes them run drills as in ball handling drills and five on fives against each other.
“To prepare for tryouts I put up 100 shots every day, condition and I go weightlifting,” said varsity senior captain Andrew Palfreyman.
This year, the team is mostly a whole new group of players. Most of the team members from last year were seniors. The team captains are going to be seniors Andrew Palferman, Gaige Wall and junior Evan Vittoe. They are predicted to be great leaders and really bring the team together according to the basketball team.
“I am so excited to lead the team this year. It’s going to be a great year with my teammates,” Vittoe said.
Eagle High’s basketball team is starting strong. Pickett is putting them to work. The team won against Twin Falls 54-36 and Columbia 64-37. Palferyman scored the most points against Twin Falls with 16 points. It’s clear the team’s hard work is paying off and the Eagle High Mustangs are going to have an amazing year.
