The Eagle High football team has completed the end of their season. According to maxpreps.com, they went 6-0 in conference play and 9-3 in overall play. The team had 25 seniors this season that helped contribute to the success they had.
“I think the group of guys we had this year helped make us so successful,” said senior Sione Perkins. The team has three college commitments so far including offensive lineman Sione Perkins, linebacker Jack Giannini and defensive lineman Nate Williams. Perkins will attend Iowa State University, while Williams and Giannini will attend University of Idaho.
“I would say the leadership the team has had this year has helped us be so successful,” Perkins said. The Mustangs won all their conference games, made it to the district championship as well as the state championship. Although the team fell short against Rocky Mountain High in the district championship, they managed to battle their way into competing at state.
In the quarterfinals, the team played Madison High in a home game. They put up a tough fight and pulled off a win with a score of 22-16. This resulted in them making it to the semifinals, which was against Coeur D’Alene High. The Mustangs drove eight hours to compete at Coeur D’Alene High for the state title.
Eagle High won against Coeur D’Alene High with a score of 28-14. Junior running back Noah Burnham, scored more than half of the team’s points with 18 points. The other remaining touchdown was scored by junior quarterback Austin Ramsey. Senior kicker Lucas Boockholdt was successful in his position and scored on all four of his kicks.
With the win over Coeur D’Alene High, this resulted in the team making it to the state championship. The Mustangs played Rigby High at the Albertsons Stadium on Nov. 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Albertsons Stadium is home to the Boise State Broncos, making it a unique atmosphere for the teams that competed there.
The Mustangs battled through the game against Rigby High and had consistent energy going. However, due to lightning warnings, the game was delayed for 30 minutes. After the game was delayed, Rigby High fought back and won the game 41-21. Eagle High placed second in the state for the 2024 school year after a great season.
