As the school year progresses and work increases, it is important to continue with personal hobbies during free time. This fall, many students are getting in the kitchen to make everything from cookies to bread and other warm meals.

“It is fun to bake in fall specifically because it’s time to slow down and take on indoor hobbies as the weather gets chilly,” said sophomore Mae Fales.

Because of the crisp weather, one of Fales’ favorite cold-weather comfort foods to make is chili.

“I love chili,” Fales said. “With bell peppers or spices, you can just feel the warmth.” According to Foodnetwork.com, one can make a delicious chili recipe, marked as “easy,” with only 25 minutes of active cooking time needed. This recipe is also described as “hearty, healthy, and comforting,” making it perfect for a simple, yet filling, family meal to brighten up this gloomy weather. Though savory foods are lovely for autumn, this is also a wonderful time to bake cozy sweet treats for loved ones.

“I love baking for my friends and family,” said junior Kaila Murphey, “I particularly love making chocolate chip pumpkin cookies.” Allrecipes.com is a great website to go to for this, with their chocolate chip pumpkin cookie recipe having 4.6 stars from 1,846 reviews.

According to Allrecipes.com, “These pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are perfect for those of us who love all things pumpkin spice flavor and chocolate.” They are fantastic for something calming and quick to do after a long school day, taking only 20 minutes, and resulting in a delicious reward.

“Give me all that pumpkin. Tis the season for PSL-pumpkin spice love,” Fales said. Her favorite thing to bake would be pumpkin bread or pumpkin iced cookies. There are so many delightful pumpkin bread recipes to choose from, including ones from Tasteofhome.com, Foodnetwork.com and Allrecipes.com.

Pumpkin iced cookies are irresistible, bite-size desserts to share with friends. They take just 45 minutes to make a huge batch, perfect for showing kindness to loved ones.

“Easy to make and even easier to eat,” according to Tasteofhome.com. “When you're craving a dose of sweet fall flavor, these pumpkin cookies with cream cheese frosting are bound to hit the spot.”

The fall is a perfect time to pick up or continue baking as the weather is getting cold, friends and family are near and everyone could use a little break from school.
