Showcasing the beauty of Idaho and the city of Boise, the glory that comes with Boise State football reveled the new “Front Porch of Idaho” hand painted team helmets during their game against Appalachian State on Sept. 27. Wrapped around a traditional blue helmet, the design shows off some key icons of the local community.
The helmet brings Idaho’s story to life, with a white airbrushed design accented with Boise States signature orange.
According to broncosports.com, “On the right side a galloping Bronco charges forward while the left side proudly displays the Idaho State Capitol in from the scenic foothills that serve as the backdrop for the ‘City of Trees’.
The back of the helmet features the iconic Albertson Stadium and its famous blue turf outlined by the Boise River and an array of trees. Some final additions include the bronco’s orange eye and the end zones to add some flash of pride to the helmets.
“I think the little details in the helmets like the bronco’s eye and blue turf really shows off some Idaho pride and symbolizes how much we care about the team and community,” said senior and fan AJ Castenetti.

The design was handcrafted by Armando Villareal, a notorious artist in the football community. Villareal has individually airbrushed helmets for 12 programs since 2018 alone, including BYU, Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee and Utah.
According to broncosports.com, “Each helmet undergoes a detailed process, beginning with sanding to create a surface that ensures proper adhesion for paint and design. The helmets are then scuffed, airbrushed, and cleaned, with each one requiring a minimum of three hours to complete.”
Boise State football has represented the state of Idaho at the highest division 1 level. In addition to being the only FBS program in the state it is one of the winningest programs in the nation since the year 200 with 262 wins. Since becoming an FBS team in 1996, the Broncos have a 285-87 record giving them a win percentage of (.766) the highest of any active team. Boise State has also reached 27 straight winning seasons and reached the college football playoff in the year 2024, after winning its second consecutive Mountain West Title.
“Boise State football has been awesome to watch, they have been one of my favorite teams, because of the culture and excitement brought to their games,” said junior Anthony Devito. “I enjoyed watching their playoff run in 2024.”
Boise State’s “Front Porch of Idaho” helmet is a bold tribute to the states pride, culture and community. With every detail the helmet captures the spirit of Boise and the legacy of Boise State football. Boise State continues to represent Idaho as the only FBS football program.
