Eagle High has been at the forefront of graphic design for almost three years now, with classes spearheaded by photography teacher Taylor Damon. Damon works as the graphic design and the photography teacher here at Eagle High. Graphic Design III, the capstone class for this program, has been working with the school and community on fun and interesting projects.
Their most recent jaunt into the world of sports was Media Day this fall. Damon’s photography class took photos, and Graphic Design III students were the ones to edit them and design them onto posters that are going to be hung up around the school.
Graphic Design students are excited and hopeful for this year. Most recently, however, for their work on Media Day, they got district acclaim for their hard work and amazing handmade designs.
According to www.westada.org, “For students looking for even more exposure to the media technology world, those that complete Graphic Design III A&B, may have the opportunity to take an elective course called Occupational & Career Experience- Media Technologies.” This means that any freshman that starts this course now will have the ability to further develop in senior year.
Many current seniors in Graphic III are excitedly looking at design colleges and creating portfolios of their previous works. Students are working towards building their own brands.
“I’m looking at Boise State and Point Loma Nazarene in San Deigo,” said senior Brayden Sweet. Both have well-known graphic design and graphic art programs.
“I think it just allows you to have creative freedom without having restrictions,” Sweet said.
According to the course description posted to the Eagle High website, “Students will develop advanced design skills by creating professional marketing materials for real-world clients, including sports teams, clubs, school events and businesses. They will gain experience in branding, visual communication and project management, preparing them for careers in graphic design and marketing”.
As the year rolls on, Graphic Design and Photo III are hopefully going to be finding more work around the school and in the community, leading to a lot more designs and fun experiences throughout the year. Current team banners can be found in the gym and out on the backs of the football stands.
