Many teenagers and adults have unhealthy impacts on their mental health due to spending a majority of their free time scrolling on online platforms. Social Media posts ideas for people to form an opinion on and often this fills their minds with negative thoughts. There are several platforms that can be more toxic than fun.
“TikTok made me very depressed because videos kept coming up that related to a bad situation in my life,” said freshman Addy Wright.
TikTok can be one of the worst platforms for mental health. The app can influence people to do bad things and have bad thoughts. There are many suicides each year that cyberbullying online and TikTok can add to the problem.
“Snapchat made the world so toxic, and people depend on it including me,” said junior Riley Davis.
However, there aren’t necessarily just negative impacts on social media. Some people on these platforms advertise the merchandise they make and most of their buyers are from these apps.
“TikTok helped me find out the university I wanted to go and what major I wanted to study,” said freshman Malia Anderson.
Instagram is used big on finding roommates for dorms in college and this can create lifelong friendships.
Social media has many negative impacts, but also positive ones as well. Social Media apps should be limited or changed.
