Last year the team competed very well as the boys came in third in state and the girls qualified for state. Both teams did well, but this year, their eyes are set on coming in first.
The team has been hard at practice from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. week in and week out trying their hardest to do better. They must travel to Boise just for practice, for some people it’s over a thirty-minute drive there and back showing how dedicated they are.
A basic practice for them is not easy and consists of hard work. It starts off with stretching, then a three-hundred-meter warm-up lap and a hundred-meter swim in each style. After, they tend to do different workouts every practice but end up swimming almost two thousand to three- thousand meters.
The past few years they’ve placed in state competitions and have even won awards, but this year their expectations are higher, and sophomore swimmer Dylan Cucchiaro believes he knows what’s going to happen this season.
“I expect us to be amazing and not to lose a single one of our meets because I trust in our amazing coaches and our hard training. I believe we are a great team,” Cucchiaro said.
Another thing that’s looking great is the team chemistry. Over recent years a very notable thing has been their collaboration and how they all get along so well. Team chemistry and spirit are important for several reasons. They help build trust in the team, make the team more comfortable around each other and build better communication. These are all crucial and needed for a good team to compete.
“The team spirit is better than last year. There are many team captains which helps keep the teams spirits up and we’re all pretty hyped for the season,” said senior Elizabeth Malan.
The team’s season started on Sept. 6, and they are excited and ready to take on the season. They have high expectations and high team sprits to help them win every competition they can. They’ve practiced and put in the work and know it’s up to them to win.
