As summer break ended, students enjoyed the heat one last time at the Western Idaho fairgrounds. On Aug. 15-24, hundreds of students visited Garden City where the decorated annual fair was held. Many students view it as the perfect “goodbye” to summer, transitioning into the new school year.
The fair has a variety of rides, some that take it to the extreme, including the Turbo, the King, the Zipper and the Invasion.
“The antigravity one you go in and stand against the walls, and it spins you so fast,” said junior Birklie Smith.
“It’s hard to lift up your arms and it feels like your upside down at one point.” Smith, like many of her friends, enjoyed the exhilarating experience of this ride as well as the large quantity of others the fair had to offer.
The fair made an impact not only with their rides, but also the numerous carnival games. There were classics like ring toss, darts, the hang challenge and basketball. Students take advantage of the shorter lines and the possible chance of winning a prize.
“I played a really fun game at the fair, and I won a goldfish,” said junior Corbin Christensen.
Spending all day out in the sun builds up an appetite, the fair offers multiple food trucks and hydration stations in order to keep attendees energized. From giant lemonade cups to a big slice of pizza, many people (especially teens) go to the fair for the nostalgic food.
Because of the memories made at the fair this year, students are already planning for next year.
“Fair season is one of my favorite seasons, so I look forward to it every year,” said junior Leighton Archer.
Students clearly have loved going to the fair year after year, encouraging more to join in experiencing the fun. It provides as a light-hearted distraction before the stress of school sets in, and is what some would say is the best way to spend ones night.
