Sources of Strength is a class offered by Eagle High that focuses on mental health. Students in this class plan and lead events that center around raising awareness for different aspects of mental health. They love getting to come up with ways to brighten other students’ days.
Teacher Sarah Richins is in charge of Sources of Strength, and she is very excited about everything SOS will be doing this year.
“This year we have partnered with the Administration team to come up with the 25-26 Eagle High Theme which is ‘Just be…’, with each month focusing on a different theme,” said Richins.
The tagline SOS is focusing on this year is “Just be…”, with the rest of the sentence being filled in with a different idea relating to mental health. Some of these ideas may include physical health, family support, positive friends, etc.
“For the months of August and September, our themes will be, Just be Eagle and Just be Welcoming. The focus here will be on inclusion, kindness and building community,” Richins said.
The themes SOS is focusing on for the first month and a half of the school year will help students to learn how to be welcoming to others.
“…EHS can look forward to fun activities each month corresponding to a section of the wheel, a ‘Strength Week’ sometime in the beginning of second semester and videos all year long,” Richins said.
SOS does not have any dates for upcoming events yet, but as Richins explains above, they do have a general idea of the things they will be doing all year long to spread joy to students.
“I am most looking forward to our campaigns in the fall and all the activities we are planning,” said junior Emily McAllister.
Students in SOS are getting excited for all the outreaches they will be doing for Eagle High this year. They love campaigning and helping to plan and host the activities SOS is doing for other students each month.
“We would also like to share that if anyone is feeling lonely, needs help or wants to learn more about how to become more resilient, please reach out to any of the Sources of Strength peer leaders; they are so happy to help and would love to connect you with any resources you may need,” Richins said.
As SOS gets ready for their events this school year, they would like students to remember that they are not alone. Students should feel free to contact the SOS peer leaders if they need help or support for anything they may be going through.
Sources of Strength is excited for all the things they will be doing. Be sure to look out for any information or announcements they will have when they get going with their events and campaigns for this year.
