In recent years, students and staff have seen multiple changes in the school system. Teachers have switched classrooms, phone vaults have been enforced and absence and tardy rules have been changed. However, a good change is the addition of student teacher Cole Witter to the Eagle High staff. What had started as a student teaching job through the Boise State education program, has now led to his own classroom.
Witter began student teaching for Eagle High’s animal science and biology teacher Jennifer Foster halfway through the 2024-2025 school year. Though he was originally only going to stay to the end of the year, he is now a part of the staff starting next year.
“Another science teacher is leaving the school, and so there’s an opening and I’m set to graduate this May with my degree and then my teaching certificate and so I had to look for jobs anyways”, said Witter “When I found about this I threw my name in and applied did all the applications and then did an interview and was offered the job and accepted it in a heartbeat, it was incredible”, Witter said. Right off the bat, Witter fell in love with the atmosphere of the campus.
“I love the Eagle High environment. I love how all the students are really excited you can see it in the hallways and they’re all walking around,” he said. “Theres always something going on on campus whether that’s just a club or sporting events but there’s always something and that’s what I really love about Eagle High.” Witter has found it easy to find a community of his own
“Currently, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Foster, Mr. Fedigan, Mr. Vital and Mrs. Spooner are the ones I interact with the most, and how passionate they are and how knowledgeable they are keeps me engaged and its super fun” Witter Said.
“Our class loves the addition of Mr. Witter, he makes class interesting and fun and he’s very interactive and relatable,” said sophomore Katrina Collins.
Witter’s teaching style is displayed in his effort to make class enjoyable.
“I remember there’s teachers that didn’t let me joke around and I always hated those classes,” Witter said, “the classes that I loved were the ones that allowed me to be myself, so that’s the key take away to help me be a high school teacher.”
Students and staff are excited to welcome Witter to this environment where his teaching style will be a new and fun experience for students in science classes.
