Eagle High cheerleaders earn a spot at Idaho State Cheer Competition
Cheer is an important part of high school, with the cheerleaders exciting the crowd and bringing the school together during sports games. However, cheerleaders also compete in their sport too.
The Eagle High cheer team made it to the Idaho State Cheer Competition this year on Feb. 28, at the Ford Idaho Center and won fourth place. This is very exciting for Eagle High and the girls on the team. Seniors who have been on the team since freshman year have put in time and effort to make it to state this year.
“My favorite part of cheer is stunting and the team aspect. I like working with all my teammates,” said senior Kennedy Hilde. Going to State Finals is an amazing high school memory that the seniors will always remember. The competition brings the team together and is a reward for all the hard work that was put in to getting so far.
The Idaho State Cheer Competition involves three performances that are each scored separately. The three parts of the competition are show, sideline and pom. The show routine involves a 30 second cheer, stunts, tumbling and a dance to music. The sideline routine is a one-minute cheer routine involving stunts, jumps and tumbling without music. The pom routine is another cheer with pom poms, dancing and stunts to music. The cheer team is proud of what they accomplished and how they performed this year.
“It was nice being able to be on the floor with our seniors one last time,” said junior Adelie Cook. Cheer is a close-knit community that is treasured throughout the Eagle High community.
As the cheer season comes to an end, the girls prepare for the new 2025-2026 season. The Eagle High cheer team hopes to attend State again and bring victory.
